In a significant upset, Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Surendra Pal Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced defeat in the Karanpur assembly seat election against his Congress opponent Rupinder Singh Koonar.
The election for the seat was postponed due to the unfortunate death of the then MLA Gurmeet Singh Koonar, and the Congress subsequently fielded his son, Rupinder Singh, as the candidate. Singh, also known as TT, had already been inducted into the Rajasthan ministry after the BJP secured 115 out of 199 seats in the assembly polls.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot extended congratulations to Rupinder Singh Koonar for his victory and highlighted the dedication of the win to the late Gurmeet Singh Koonar's public service. Gehlot emphasized the significance of the people's decision in Karanpur, stating that it reflected the public's disapproval of the BJP's actions during the elections. Despite the Congress losing the Assembly polls, Gehlot asserted that the result showcased the party's enduring influence, suggesting its impact in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
